Women Empowering Women
When I got the invite to partner up with Beaches Go Green, I was set to go out of town for a good friend’s bachelorette party. I’m grateful to have understanding friends, because this was an opportunity I could not pass up! BGG has done so much for our environment through raising awareness, educating and getting the community involved in conservation. In the few short years they’ve been running, they’ve picked up 11k pounds of trash and 109,449 cigarette butts off our streets and beaches! I am beyond proud to support their efforts in anyway I can.
BGG hosts an annual community clean-up in Atlantic, Neptune, Jacksonville and Ponte Vedra Beach. Participants were encouraged to attend a complimentary beach yoga class before the clean-up began. That’s where I came in! The week leading up to the event we went on our local news station, News 4 Jax, to help rally some volunteer troops. Each instructor had the opportunity to attend one segment to help raise awareness for the practice and what they’re up to. It was so serendipitous to have been paired up with Samantha Ryan of Sisters of the Sea. I used to be an avid surfer and haven’t surfed much since I returned from Nicaragua. She’s all about sharing the stoke with other ladies on the water. She’s inspired me to get myself a board and get back out on the water! Here’s our segment, Yoga with The Mayors <3
I was so nervous! I’m glad I only stuttered once and didn’t completely flake on LIVE television. Forever humble… It was a cold and cloudy sunrise, but we still had over 30 people for yoga at Mickler’s Beach! Between all three locations, over 1,000 volunteers showed up for their health and the health of their community! Our efforts had paid off!
I am looking forward to my next community service and environmental conservation project with Beaches Go Green. Thank you to everyone that came out! Join their email list HERE to get involved!
