When I first got started, I thought practicing yoga involved simply showing up at a class and stretching with a few other people for an hour. Yeah, sometimes it’s a bit of that, but it’s also so much more. The asanas, or postures, are only 10% of a complete yoga practice.
Truly living your yoga is incorporating the practice into every aspect of your daily life.
Living your yoga practice means showing up for yourself at a yoga class even if you’re grieving the loss of a loved one. It means going to therapy to deal with childhood trauma that’s difficult to talk about. It’s caring about what you put into your body, and your impact on the earth. It means acknowledging your shortcomings and taking the necessary action to correct them. It means being impeccable with your word and being of service to others, to name a few.
I like to call the practice of yoga “The Journey of Unbecoming”; it’s working through all of the unbecoming parts of ourselves. Unbecoming this person weighed down by judgment, disconnection, comparison, expectations, and all of the other BS life throws at you. Yoga can help you come back to the understanding that you are already perfect and whole just as you are.
When you start to live in this way, life begins to flow with ease. You go through the highs and the lows with equanimity. Your relationships begin to flourish. You find yourself happier and healthier. You tap into a potential you never knew you had. I know because I’ve experienced it myself and seen it happen to yogis all around the world.
When you think of your everyday life, do you experience more stress and tension than ease and contentment?
Do you feel stuck? Unhappy and unhealthy with seemingly nowhere to turn? Do you feel like you’re just going through the motions, not truly living?
Do you feel disconnected from your body and spirit, but feel you don’t have the time or resources to make a change?
Maybe you’re ready to live a more mindful life, but you just don’t know where to begin.
You’re just ready to hit the reset button. I know that feeling. That’s why I founded Live Your Yoga.
When you live your yoga, you can:
Gain the clarity to realize what's no longer serving you and the strength to walk away from it.
Cultivate patience and self-love to allow yourself to acknowledge the slip-ups and celebrate your achievements.
Practice compassion to move through the highs and lows of life with equanimity and without judgment.
Find the courage to break away from your comfort zone and step toward the life of your dreams.
I founded Live Your Yoga to share the practices and tools that saved my life. I know what it’s like to feel unhealthy, unhappy, and checked out. I believe I can use yoga to help make the world a better place..
Yoga brought me back to life.
I first came to Yoga to help reduce back pain caused by scoliosis. Looking back now, I realize I was searching for more than just pain relief—I was looking for Change.
When I first started practicing yoga, it was really hard! I slipped and slid all over my mat, not knowing what to do. But then, after some time, I remember this very intense sensation… I’d never felt so connected to my body before, so at ease. I felt fully alive for the first time in my life.
I wanted that feeling to continue off of my mat and into my daily life.
I showed up on my mat more often. I started to feel better. I quit smoking cigarettes, and I started drinking less and eating more whole foods. I left the service industry and began teaching full time so that I could help others feel more alive, too.
Now, eight years and 700+ hours of training later, I’ve had the opportunity to teach at multiple studios, help facilitate teacher trainings, lead workshops, host retreats, offer Thai Yoga Bodywork, provide personal 1:1 instruction, and work in environmental conservation. I’ve been fortunate enough to witness the transformative and healing powers of Yoga in children, trauma victims, and patients in rehabilitation facilities. I’ve reached a global community from Nicaragua to Jacksonville, FL to the hills of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Of course, I’m leaving a lot out. I’ve lived through years of breakdowns and breakthroughs; I’ve navigated the challenges of letting go and experienced the joy of welcoming in.
And you know what? It’s all been worth it.
A place where I acknowledge my shortcomings and take necessary action to correct them. Where I understand and uphold my worth and what I want to create in my life. A place where I use my power to better myself and those around me.
I realized that, no matter how many things go wrong, it’s important to keep moving forward. I learned to identify what serves me and what doesn’t, so that I can continue to create the life of my dreams.
This journey to the Self isn’t always a pretty or glamorous one; it involves a lot of sweat, tears, and some guts. It requires time, sitting with the uncomfortable, not knowing what’s coming next but believing in yourself anyway. While it might not be easy, it’s so worth it.
I’ll leave you with this: don't wait for life to happen to you. Make it happen for you. I share my struggles and experiences with you to help you know that you’re not alone in this. I hope you can resonate with some of my story and apply some insight to your own practice.
You don’t have to keep going through the motions.
You don’t have to beat up on yourself. I’ve learned that what's in the past can't be changed and being hard on yourself serves no one.
It's only what you do going forward that matters now.
I’m here to help you start today.
Love and light,
When we work together, you can expect to gain a supportive, open-minded community. You’ll gain deeper access to your inner strength, clarity, flexibility, and vitality. You’ll feel more balanced, relaxed, and connected to your body. Caution: One can expect to enjoy more hugs, laughter, and smiles.
You might feel a lightness in your chest as past pain and anxiety subsides. A deeper connection to yourself will take hold. If you already practice yoga, you’ll build a deeper asana practice and learn more about the other eight limbs of the yoga practice.
When you Live Your Yoga, your experience is ultimately up to you. I’ll help you find a rhythm that feels good for you.
“Before working with Alexis I was feeling extremely low. I decided to take her up on her offerings, as I knew I needed some support in getting back into the self care I need. What I got from the experience was very much that. She has a gentle and genuine way about her work that allowed me to feel safe, accepted and willing. I was reminded that caring for myself is not an all or nothing deal. It’s the simple act of turning inward, making space to hear my own needs and responding to them. There is so much power in helping each other up, and this woman is harnessing it and sharing it. Thank you.”
"I, like so many others, get so wrapped up and bogged down by the mundane responsibilities of life. It’s easy for me to put myself and my needs on the back burner and joining Alexis and this group of amazing people was exactly what I needed to remind myself of the immense joy and benefit that comes from slowing down and taking out some time and thought for me.
Alexis is so wonderful to listen to and genuinely radiates love, light and positivity and just sharing in that space with her and others was a breath of fresh air. The questions she posed and the rituals we created will stick with me and be something I use and lean into for the indefinite future. I’m so grateful for the experience."
"I never had a Thai massage before working with Alexis at Live Your Yoga, but now I'm hooked. I really like the way her massage blends stretching with careful attention on a variety of pressure points from head to toe, leaving me feeling lighter and fresher than I've found with traditional massage. Alexis is clearly an expert in her field, and her warm and caring personality is an added bonus to the overall experience. I highly recommend you try her service."
